What exactly are Christmas trees? A Christmas tree is basically a decorated stand, usually an artificial or a live tree, including a Douglas fir, spruce, fir, or holly, associated with the celebration of Christmas. The early Christmas trees were typically in Norway by people who made their living from fishing, logging, and farming out of their large wooden houses, called cabins. By the time of the Reformation, most Christmas trees were made in Christmas carvers in Germany.
Christmas trees have become one of the most popular decorations for any type of celebration.
There are many types of Christmas trees available today. Most, whether they're man-made or nature-made, are designed to either be a decoration like sprigs of evergreen for a Christmas tree, or to provide some other purpose, such as a Christmas wreath or tree to adorn your door, windowsills, mantelpieces, fences, and even some of your garage doors and windows. One of the more popular artificial Christmas trees these days are Victoria trees, sometimes called "Albany Firs," which are a hybrid of spruce and fir trees. One of the most popular brands of this kind of tree is the "Furrealz", which is manufactured in Germany.
Christmas trees are generally made up of five main sections: the tree, which are the main piece that holds the lights; the branches, which are the individual pieces of the Christmas tree; the lights, which can come in many different varieties, including traditional strings of "robes" (colors of dark green, blue, and white) that are attached to branches; and the nuts, which are the small clusters of nuts, wrapped in cellophane and sold as gift items.
Traditionally, the Christmas tree is adorned with shiny ribbon and garlands of lights; however, newer, less-shiny models are also available. Traditional Christmas trees have always had pine cones in their bark, as well as berries, nuts, and nines. Some, however, have no bark at all. In addition to pine and berry racks, garlands of lights can be hung on trees featuring a variety of other decorations.
Today, artificial christmas trees come in a wide variety of types. While many still use the traditional Christmas tree and strings of "robes," there are now "bamboo" trees that have lights attached with wires, so the lights will last for years to come. Another type of artificial Christmas trees are the fiberglass and composite kinds, which look just like real, organic pine trees. Fiberglass and composite trees are available in a variety of colors and come pre-lit or with their own battery-powered lighting system. Both varieties come with Christmas rope lights that hang on the branches.
The most popular type of pre-lit christmas trees, due largely to their longevity and energy efficiency, are the ones that feature artificial "furniture." These trees are usually less than six inches in height and feature faux or realistic branches that can hang down, twinkle, and move. A popular style features small, white, glass figurines that resemble some types of ancient figures such as Griswold figures or nativity figures. Many modern artificial Christmas trees also come with mistletoes (winged figures) that add to the festive feel of the occasion.
Although many people choose not to follow the traditional Christmas tree ceremony, they do follow the Christmas spirit by decorating their homes with wonderful, life-like Christmas trees. Most Christians and most people of the world do not celebrate Christmas per se, but the holiday season remains a special part of the calendar for many people. Some will choose not to celebrate Christmas if they are not able to attend the actual ceremony, but will decorate their tree in their own way. This shows both ingenuity and good taste, and many people enjoy this creative process.
